Since September we have been asking those who register for the MOOC about the level of their knowledge and/or understanding of several key course themes: of learning design, OERS, MOOCs and Web 2.0 Tools. I suspect this information will be useful both for those designing the MOOC and for those planning to participate.
The four graphs below show the profile of the most recent 200 or so people to register for the MOOC (note, respondents for asked to score themselves on a scale from 1 = novice to 5 = expert). It would appear that most already have a good or very good knowledge and/or understanding of Learning Design and, to a lesser extent, OERs (gave score of 3 or higher), although there are around 15-30% who placed themselves towards the 'novice' end of the scale. Most also seem to have a very good knowledge and/or understanding of Web 2.0 Tools. However, as the lower left graph shows, as much as half admit to having little knowledge and/or experience of MOOCs.
These data forms part of our ongoing evaluation work. Simon
